Fishing in Newfoundland

NEWFOUNDLAND FISHING

Fishing on the Avalon Peninsula is a fun and rewarding experience for the seasoned and novice fishermen. There are many Licensed Salmon Rivers such as the North Arm River in Holyrood, and the Salmonier River in Salmonier aproximately a half hour drive from Holyrood. There are several good fishing spots along the 15km stretch between the mouth of the Salmonier river and Murphy's Falls, accessible from the highway. The best fishing spots are Back River, Pinsent's Falls, Butler's, and Murphy Falls.

Further along route 90, at St.Vincents there is a large salt water lake 14 miles

long, 1 mile wide, with depths of up to 400 feet. This lake is named Holyrood Pond. This pond is located so close to the ocean that due to the tides, cod fish and other ocean species can sometimes be found in the pond. There is lots of good fishing to be done at Holyrood Pond. In the 1890's the Newfoundland Government pioneered fish hatching in this spectacular ocean inlet.
