SquidFest

The Squid Jigging Festival was started by the town in 1988. It began as a one day event, but through the years it developed into four days of fun and excitment for all. It begins the first week of August with all activities situated on the Marina grounds.

Some of the activities include:
  • senior citizens party
  • family walks
  • picnics
  • dunk tanks
  • karaoke
  • live entertainment
  • scavenger hunt
  • folk festival

The Squid Jigging Festival, affectionally known as SquidFest, got its name from the long history of squid jigging in the harbour. Recent years has seen a decline in squid, however, local fishermen still spend days on end jigging for squid just off the main beach.
